Werewolf Raku vase made by me in 2007. The whole werewolf/painful transformation things matches very well with the drama and unpredictability of the raku technique, lifting the item out of the container filled with ppine needles and newspaper with long tongs and special gloves while the piece is still glowing hot. His teeth are made from fragments of dishes which were mostly fused into his jaw by the firing practice (I have actually replaced some afterwards which were not secure). Normally raku will not hold water, but I have made this a functioning vase by puring boiling milk in and leaving it to seal overnight. Does it smell like sour milk? It does not. However, warm water only for washing is recommended, otherwise you will have to reseal it yourself. as you can see, he very loosely imitates the sort of Victorian vase that has multiple openings for flowers.
The werewolf vase is 13 inches long by * inches tall by 7 1/2" wide, signed "Sanford 2007" on the bottom. More photos avaialble on request. Ships priority with insurance.
This is one of my own favorites, I thought he should come out to play for Halloween.
