Incredible antique garment, circa 1920s. Constructed of a luscious quality silk in vibrant coral with striped printed sections in french blue, white, and jadeite green (the green sections nearly create an optical illusion, spaced as they are between sections of blue at the torso). Utterly classic 1920s style: meant to be loose-fitting, with a dropped waist, long sleeves, collared v-neck, and midi-length skirt. Has a long, thin peach silk tie for cinching the waist or hip. Nine decorative mother of pearl buttons up the front bodice. No closures/slip-on style. This is by far the most vibrant garment I've seen from this era, shocking in its modernity and reminiscent of something that might have been worn on the French Riviera or other seaside resort. A rare yet thoroughly wearable collector's piece.
Recommended for small and medium sizes. Keep in mind that it is meant to fit loosely, and that there are no closures for taking it on & off. Measurements, taken lying flat and doubled where appropriate, are approximately:
Bust: 40"
Waist: 42"
Hip: 42"
Shoulder: 15"
Sleeve length: 23"
Dress length: 43"
The dress is in amazing condition for its age and for being entirely constructed of silk. It was apparently worn rarely and gently, and lovingly stored for the last 80 or 90 years. I find a minor worn/frayed area at the collar, two light marks that are hidden beneath one side of the collar, a scattering of small, light marks near the front/side hem, a pinpoint sized hole at the the hem and one at the back shoulder, a few light spots on the middle back, and a small brown spot near the back hem (probably the most noticeable flaw, shown in the last photo). I feel that the eye passes over all of these easily, and that the overall impression is truly superb. The dress has been lightly steam-cleaned and is ready to wear.
