This unique print of “Birds of Paradise""is from The Illustrated Chamber’s Encyclopaedia – A Dictionary of Universal Knowledge (Volume II) published in 1923 by W. & R. Chambers of London and Edinburgh. The Chamber’s encyclopedia has a long history back to the first edition that was published in 1860 by W. & R. Chambers with further revisions taking place as recently as 1950. The founders of Chambers Publishers, William (1800 – 1883) and Robert (1802 – 1871) Chambers had their first publication in 1819. Robert was also a very prolific writer including Vestiges of the Natural History of Creation (1844) which was so controversial that his authorship was not acknowledged until after his death.
