Wonderful vintage day dress, circa late 1940s/early 1950s. By Natalie Inc. of Washington DC. Charming midcentury beatnik/bohemian style, classic and feminine. Comfortable cotton in a crisp apple green and midnight navy bold plaid print. Dress has a wide, flattering, scooped neckline in front and back, and a dolman-cut bodice with small fitted balloon sleeves. Nipped, banded waistline. Skirt has light pleating along the waist for a slightly full silhouette (the best kind, so much better for the figure than a full circle). One hidden hip pocket for the right hand. Bold navy stripes at the hem. Dress fastens up the back with plastic buttons. A high-quality, very special frock.
Measurements, taken lying flat and doubled where appropriate, are approximately:
Bust: about 34-36" (slightly flexible due to the dolman cut; meant to be a bit blousy)
Waist: 25"
Hip: full
Sleeve cuff circumference (fitted here, so pls. check your upper arm measurement): 11"
Dress length: 42.5"
The dress is in very good condition for its age. It apparently was a favorite of its previous owner's, but she took loving care of it and it shows; the piece is crisp and clean and looks fantastic. There is a small, well-darned place behind one of the buttons on the bodice, and a patch on one side of the skirt that is so expertly done it is nearly indiscernible (see photo). The sleeves have been professionally let out about 1/2", so the original seams are visible under the arms (hardly noticeable), and two of the buttons are well-matched replacements. The dress is clean and ready to wear.
