This group of antique indigo includes a large piece of unused indigo fabric, hand pieced blocks, a small piece of linen and a nice selection of prints. 19thc indigo fabric is getting harder and harder to find. While it might not seem like a lot, the 27" length of the pinwheel print is a true find. The 24", selvedge to selvedge width attests to its 19thc manufacture and confirms its desirability The pinwheel and all other pieces in this group date from the period of 1875-1900.
The largest piece is the pinwheel print. It measures 24" X 27", minus a 5x6" square at one corner. The fabric was probably intended for women's clothing as it is light weight, and not quite sheer. It is is crisp and unused.
The three larger patches are 11.5" square. They are recycled with scraps at the edges and some open seams. Handsewn, they would be easily taken apart for further restyling.
The smaller blocks are two at about 9" square and one at 7" square. Also hand sewn and recycled
There are three pieces of a woven, chambray stripe. They range from 2x8" to 5x7"
The linen solid is a beautiful, slate blue. It is crisp and unused and measures 8x9".
Lastly, there is a long, 3.5" X 15" strip of indigo print with a leaf pattern, scattered on a micro dot.
