Boro textiles were made in the early 19th century by impoverished Japanese people. They are hand sewn from recycled indigo dyed cotton rags.
This boro textile was purchased in Kyoto, Japan. It is most probably sourced from old futon covers, kimonos, boro fabric and other traditional Japanese textiles. It dates between 1900's - 1940's.
This piece has been hand stitched from a variety of naturally dyed hand loomed antique indigo
