This custom made 1940's wedding gown is fit for a princess.
The ivory satin bodice narrows at the waist, inspired by Victorian corsetry. The bodice incorporates floral motifs from machine-made lace, which is the second layer on top of silk net (tulle). On the back are 40 lace covered buttons, which fasten by rouleau loops. The skirt also incorporates lace in a similar manner, layered in vertical accent stripes on the dress's hip pleats which unfold to the floor. The main body of the dress is made in white satin, with a long, full skirt, finishing in a short train.
The headpiece and veil are from Filene's Bridal. The lace covering of the crown styled headpiece is a very close match to the dress but not identical. There are two layers of tulle so one can be flipped down while you walk down the isle.
Additional details include 8 lace covered buttons at each wrist as well as additional lace applique circling the neckline and at the shoulder seam. What a beauty!
I bought this dress from an estate sale and I have a picture of the original owner on her special day in 1948. I also have pictures of this dress's archival preservation where it has been stored in a clean dry home, unopened, for decades.
This dress in in pristine condition, the only fault is a slight yellowing of the armpits. There is not a single tear in the tulle or lace.
